Help Centre / Payments - Updated 28 October 2026

A payment gateway is the company that takes your customers' payments and pays the money out to you. Shoprocket connects to your own account with the gateway, so every payment goes straight to you. Shoprocket takes no cut: you keep 100% of every sale, on every plan.

All of this lives in one place: **Settings > Payments**. This article explains what each gateway offers and how to choose. The steps to connect the two most popular ones are in [Connect your Stripe account](https://v3.shoprocket.io/help/connect-stripe.md) and [Connect your PayPal account](https://v3.shoprocket.io/help/connect-paypal.md).

## Fees

Shoprocket charges **0% transaction fees**. You pay your plan's monthly price and nothing per sale.

Your gateway charges its own processing fee on each payment. That fee goes to the gateway, not to Shoprocket, and it is set by your agreement with them. Check the gateway's own pricing page for the rate in your country.

## The gateways you can connect

Each gateway appears as a card on the Payments screen, with what it offers and its current state, such as **Not connected** or **Ready to take payments**.

| Gateway | What your customers can pay with | How you connect it |
|---|---|---|
| **Stripe** | Cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay and 40+ local payment methods | Click **Connect Stripe** and complete Stripe's setup |
| **PayPal** | PayPal balance, Pay Later, and cards through PayPal | Click **Connect PayPal** and sign in to PayPal |
| **Square** | Cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Cash App Pay and Afterpay, paid out to your Square account | Click **Connect Square** and sign in to Square |
| **Mollie** | iDEAL, Bancontact, SEPA, Klarna and cards across the EEA and the UK | Click **Set up Mollie** and paste your Mollie **API Key** |
| **Authorize.net** | Card payments for US merchants | Click **Set up Authorize.net** and paste your **API Login ID**, **Transaction Key** and **Signature Key** |
| **Razorpay** | UPI, cards, netbanking and wallets for Indian businesses | Click **Set up Razorpay** and paste your **Key ID** and **Key Secret** |
| **NOWPayments** | Bitcoin, Ethereum and 300+ cryptocurrencies | Click **Set up NOWPayments** and paste your **API Key** and **IPN Secret** |

Under each gateway, small labels show what it supports:

- **Refunds**: you can refund orders from Shoprocket. NOWPayments does not offer refunds, so crypto refunds are sent back from your own wallet.
- **Auth & capture**: you can authorise a payment first and take the money later.
- **Recurring**: the gateway can charge subscription renewals. Stripe, Square, Mollie and Authorize.net can. PayPal depends on your PayPal account.

## One card gateway at a time

Your checkout can take cards through one gateway at a time, so customers never see two "pay by card" choices. Stripe, Square, Mollie, Authorize.net and Razorpay all take cards. If you switch one of them on while another is on, the other is switched off when you save, and the card tells you so before you do.

**PayPal** and **NOWPayments** are separate buttons at checkout, so they can run alongside your card gateway. A common setup is Stripe for cards and wallets, plus PayPal.

## Manual payment methods

You can also take payment outside a gateway, such as bank transfer, cash on delivery or payment in person. In the **Manual payment methods** card:

1. Click **Add manual method**.
2. Fill in **Name** (for example, Bank Transfer), **Description** (shown next to the method at checkout) and **Instructions** (shown to the customer after they choose it, such as your bank details and what happens next).
3. Leave the switch on **Available at checkout**, or set it to **Hidden** to keep the method without offering it.
4. Click **Save settings**.

Orders paid this way stay unpaid until you mark them paid yourself, once the money arrives.

## How to pick

- **Most stores:** Stripe, if it is available in your country (check Stripe's own list). It covers cards and wallets, and you can turn on extra local methods in your Stripe account. Add PayPal alongside it, since many shoppers prefer it.
- **You already sell in person with Square:** connect Square, so your online and in-store sales land in one account.
- **Selling mainly in the Netherlands, Belgium or nearby:** Mollie brings iDEAL, Bancontact and other local bank methods that shoppers there expect.
- **You already have an Authorize.net merchant account in the US:** connect it and keep your existing card processing.
- **Selling in India:** Razorpay brings UPI and netbanking.
- **You want to accept crypto:** add NOWPayments alongside a card gateway.

Some gateways take payments in only one currency per account. If that currency is not the one your shop is priced in, the card warns you, and that gateway does not appear at checkout until they match.

## Switching a gateway on

Connecting a gateway does not put it in your checkout yet. When its card says **Ready to take payments** (or **Connected** for gateways you set up with keys), turn its switch to **On**, then click **Save settings**.

## Testing before you go live

You don't need a gateway to try your checkout. The **Test payments** card on the same screen has a **Place a test order** button. It uses a built-in test payment method, where you approve or decline the payment yourself and no money moves. Test orders send emails and hold stock like real ones, but stay out of your reports. Until your store has a real way to take payment, your shop's checkout uses the test method too. See [Take a test order](https://v3.shoprocket.io/help/take-a-test-order.md).
