# Import your order history

> Bring past orders over from Shopify, WooCommerce or any spreadsheet. Go to Orders, click Import and upload the export as it is. Imported orders join each customer's history and your reports, and no emails go out and no stock moves.

Help Centre / Orders and customers - Updated 29 October 2026

When you move to Shoprocket you can bring your past orders with you, so each customer's history, lifetime spend and your sales reports start from the day you opened, not the day you switched. You upload the export from your old platform and Shoprocket reads it as it is.

An imported order is a record of a sale that already happened somewhere else. It is never treated as a new sale: no emails go to anyone, no stock moves, nothing is charged, and no webhooks or automations run.

## Before you begin

- **Import your customers first** (see [Import customers](https://v3.shoprocket.io/help/import-customers.md)), so each order joins the right customer. An order whose email matches no one creates the customer for you, without marketing consent.
- **Import your products first** if you want order lines linked to them. Lines are matched to your products by SKU, then by name. Lines that don't match are kept exactly as sold, just without a link.
- Get your export:
  - **Shopify**: **Orders > Export**, as a CSV for all orders. Shopify's export has one row per line item, which is what Shoprocket expects.
  - **WooCommerce**: an order export from an export plugin. Both one row per line item and WooCommerce's packed `line_items` columns work.
  - **Anything else**: a spreadsheet with one row per line item. Click **Download CSV template** on the import page for an example.
- Files can be CSV, Excel or JSON, up to 10MB. Save CSV files as UTF-8.
- To import, your staff account needs the **Create orders** permission.

## Step 1: Upload the file

1. Go to **Orders** and click **Import**.
2. Click **Choose a CSV, Excel or JSON file**, pick your export and click **Upload & continue**. You can also paste a link to the file instead.

## Step 2: Match the columns

The **Map CSV columns** step lists each column in your file with example values. Columns from Shopify and WooCommerce exports are matched for you and marked **Auto-detected**; check them, and use **Map to** for anything left over, or **(Skip this column)**.

You must map:

- **Order number**: rows with the same number become one order. If your file has no number, map **Order id** instead.
- **Order date**: when the order was placed.
- At least one of **Item name**, **Item SKU** or **WooCommerce line items**.

The rest is optional: customer email and name, payment and fulfilment status, currency, subtotal, discount and discount code, shipping amount and method, tax amount and name, total, refunded amount, payment method, customer note, paid and cancelled dates, each line's quantity, unit price and line total, and the full billing and shipping addresses.

## Step 3: Choose the mode and start

Under **Import settings**, pick an **Import mode**:

- **Import all (create + update)**: new orders are added and orders you imported before are updated.
- **Only create new**: orders already imported are skipped.
- **Only update existing**: only orders already imported are updated.

Orders are matched on their order number from the old platform, so importing the same file again updates those orders instead of making duplicates. Click **Start import**.

## Step 4: Check the result

The page shows how many orders were **Created**, **Updated** and **Failed**, and how many line items were linked to your products. If any row failed or was imported with a change, click **Download error report** (or **Download report** when nothing failed) to see which rows and why. Click **View orders** to see them.

## How statuses come across

- **Payment**: Shopify's financial status (paid, partially paid, refunded, pending and so on) or WooCommerce's order status is kept. WooCommerce's **completed** comes in as paid and fulfilled, **processing** as paid and not yet shipped. A file with no status column is read as all paid.
- **A refunded amount** on a paid order makes it partly or fully refunded.
- **A cancelled date**, or a cancelled or voided status, imports the order as cancelled.
- **An unknown status** imports the order as awaiting payment, and the report says which.
- **WooCommerce orders that never became sales** (failed, draft, checkout draft or trashed) are left out.

## What you can do with an imported order

Imported orders sit in **Orders** with your other orders and carry a note at the top: "Imported from Shopify." (or WooCommerce, or a CSV file). They count toward each customer's lifetime spend and your reports on their original date, and a customer's "customer since" date moves back to their first order.

Because each one already shipped and was invoiced where it was sold, Shoprocket doesn't offer **Mark as fulfilled**, shipping labels, **Cancel order**, **Mark as paid** or an invoice on it. Review-request emails are never sent for them either.
