# See how a customer found you

> Every order placed in your shop shows a How they found you card: the search, ad, social post, email or website that brought the customer, the page they landed on, and when they bought. Use it to see which marketing actually sells.

Help Centre / Orders and customers - Updated 29 October 2026

When a customer orders from your shop, Shoprocket remembers how they got there: a Google search, an Instagram post, an ad, one of your own emails, another website linking to you, or typing your address in directly. You see it on the order, so you can tell which marketing brings in sales and which only brings in visits.

It works on your Shoprocket shop and on every embed on your own website, on every plan, with nothing to switch on.

## Where to find it

Open an order from **Orders**. The **How they found you** card is in the right-hand column. It reads like a short timeline:

- **Where they came from**: the source, and the kind of traffic when it is known, for example **Google**, **Instagram · social**, **Google · cpc** for a paid ad, or **Direct** when they typed your address or used a bookmark. The campaign name and the referring website are shown under it.
- **Landed on**: the first page they saw, for example `/products/portland-morning-blend`, with the date of their first visit, and their device and country.
- **Checkout**: when they placed the order.
- **Paid**: the amount and when it was paid.

The top of the card shows how many visits they made and over how many days before buying.

## Campaigns and UTM tags

If the customer arrived through a link tagged with UTM parameters, such as `?utm_source=instagram&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=fall-roast`, the card shows those tags under **UTM**, and how many other orders came from the same campaign.

Add UTM tags to the links in your ads, posts and newsletters from other tools, so each campaign shows up by name. Emails you send with Shoprocket are tagged for you: the card reads **Email:** and the campaign's name, with a **View campaign results** link.

## First visit and last visit

The source shown is the last one that brought the customer back before they bought. If they first found you somewhere else, a line under the timeline says so, for example "First found you through Google · cpc". That is often the ad that introduced them, while the last visit is what closed the sale.

## Pages they viewed

Click **Pages they viewed** at the bottom of the card to see the first pages of their visit, in order.

## When the card is missing or shorter

The card only appears when Shoprocket knows something about the visit. You won't see it on:

- Orders you created in the dashboard, which show **Created in the dashboard** under the order number instead.
- Orders brought in from another platform (see [Import your order history](https://v3.shoprocket.io/help/import-orders.md)).
- Orders placed before this tracking began.

The device, country and pages viewed come from Shoprocket's visitor analytics, which runs once your shop is live. They are missing while your shop is still in test mode, and for customers whose browser blocks tracking. The source and landing page come with the order itself, so they are usually still there.

For totals across all your orders, by source and campaign, see **Analytics**.
