# Take quote requests and enquiries

> Let shoppers ask you for a price instead of paying. Put an Enquire button on single products, or turn your whole shop into request-a-quote, then turn each request into a priced draft order the customer pays online.

Help Centre / Orders and customers - Updated 29 October 2026

Quotes & enquiries lets a shopper ask you for a price instead of paying at checkout. They tell you what they want and how many, the request lands in your dashboard and your inbox, and you send them a quote at your price that they pay online. Nothing is charged and no stock is held until the quote becomes an order.

It suits any seller whose price depends on the customer or the job: wholesale and trade buyers ordering in bulk, made-to-order and custom work, services that need a conversation first, and catalogue shops that show their range but agree prices one customer at a time. It works the same on your Shoprocket shop and in every embed on your own website.

There are two ways to use it, and you can start with either:

- **One product at a time.** Set a product to Enquire, and its Add to cart button becomes **Enquire**. You can hide its price too. Everything else in your shop sells as usual.
- **The whole shop.** Turn on quote mode, and shoppers fill a cart as normal but send it to you as a request instead of paying. You can hide every price as well.

## Add the app

1. In your dashboard, go to **Apps**.
2. Find **Quotes & enquiries** under **Selling** and click **Add**.

![The Quotes & enquiries app on the Apps page, with its Add button](https://v3.shoprocket.io/img/help/quotes-and-enquiries/apps-add.webp)

**Quotes** now appears in your sidebar under **Sell**, after **Drafts**. That is where requests arrive. The settings for quote mode are in **Settings > Quotes**.

Saving a product as Enquire also adds the app for you, so you can skip this step if you start with a product.

## Let shoppers enquire about one product

1. Open the product from **Products**.
2. Click **Add to this product** and search for "quote", or look under **How it sells**.
3. Next to **Enquiry & price on request**, click **Add**.

![Add to this product, searched for "quote", offering Enquiry & price on request with its Add button](https://v3.shoprocket.io/img/help/quotes-and-enquiries/add-to-product.webp)

4. A new **Enquiry & price on request** section opens on the product, with **Shoppers can** set to **Enquire (ask you for a price)**.
5. To hide the price as well, switch on **Price on request**.
6. Click **Save**.

![The Enquiry & price on request section of a product, set to Enquire with Price on request switched on](https://v3.shoprocket.io/img/help/quotes-and-enquiries/enquiry-section.webp)

What changes for that product:

- **Add to cart becomes Enquire** on your shop's product page and product cards, and in every embed: buy buttons, product cards and catalogues. On a card, a product with options shows **Select Options** first, so the shopper picks a variant on its page and the request names it.
- **With Price on request on, the price reads "Price on request"** everywhere it would show: your shop, your embeds, search results and the public API. The price is left out of the page and the product data altogether, not just hidden from view, so a shopper cannot find it in the page source. Price filters leave the product out, and sorting by price puts it last.
- **With Price on request off,** the price shows as normal beside the Enquire button. That suits a product whose listed price is a starting point.
- **It leaves your product feeds.** An Enquire product is not listed in your Google, Meta or ChatGPT product feeds, whether its price is hidden or not, because those listings promise a price the shopper can buy at today.

![A product on the shop showing Price on request and an Enquire button where Add to cart would be](https://v3.shoprocket.io/img/help/quotes-and-enquiries/shop-price-on-request.webp)

To sell the product normally again, click **Remove enquiry & price on request from this product** at the bottom of the section, then **Save**.

## Turn on quote mode for the whole shop

1. Go to **Settings > Quotes**. You can also click **Quote settings** at the top of the Quotes page.
2. Switch on **Take quote requests instead of payments**.
3. To hide every price too, switch on **Hide all prices**. This is catalogue mode: every product in your shop shows "Price on request".
4. Click **Save settings**.

![Settings > Quotes with Take quote requests instead of payments switched on and Hide all prices beneath it](https://v3.shoprocket.io/img/help/quotes-and-enquiries/settings-quotes.webp)

While quote mode is on:

- Shoppers add products to the cart as usual, including products set to Enquire.
- The cart's checkout button becomes **Request a quote**, and nothing in your shop can be paid for.
- Your whole shop leaves your Google, Meta and ChatGPT product feeds.

**Hide all prices** only works with quote mode on: a shop that takes payments has to show its prices. Turning quote mode off turns Hide all prices off with it, and checkout works normally again. Products you set to Enquire stay that way.

## What your shoppers see

### The Enquire form

Clicking **Enquire** opens **Ask about this product**. It shows the product with its price, or "Price on request", and asks for a **Quantity**, **Your name**, **Email Address**, **Phone (optional)** and **Message (optional)**. **Send request** sends it, and the form says **Request sent**.

![A shopper clicks Enquire, fills in the Ask about this product form and sends it, and the form says Request sent](https://v3.shoprocket.io/img/help/quotes-and-enquiries/enquire-form-poster.webp) (video: https://v3.shoprocket.io/img/help/quotes-and-enquiries/enquire-form.mp4)

### Request a quote from the cart

In quote mode, the cart lists each product with its price, or **Price on request** for one whose price is hidden, and leaves out the subtotal while any price is hidden. In place of checkout it says "Send your cart as a request and we'll reply with a quote. Nothing is charged." above a **Request a quote** button.

![The cart in quote mode: one product priced, one marked Price on request, and a Request a quote button in place of Checkout](https://v3.shoprocket.io/img/help/quotes-and-enquiries/quote-cart.webp)

**Request a quote** opens the same form for the whole cart, listing every line. There is no address and no payment step, because you price the quote by hand. Once it is sent, the shopper starts again with an empty cart, just as after a normal checkout.

![The Request a quote form listing both cart lines, with name, email, phone and message filled in](https://v3.shoprocket.io/img/help/quotes-and-enquiries/request-a-quote.webp)

### The confirmation email

The shopper gets an email from your store, in your email branding and in the language they were shopping in, headed "We got your request". It lists what they asked about, with each price or "price on request", tells them nothing has been charged, and invites them to reply if they want to add anything.

![The We got your request email, listing what the shopper asked about, with a line priced and a line on request](https://v3.shoprocket.io/img/help/quotes-and-enquiries/confirmation-email.webp)

You get an email too, headed "Quote request from" the shopper's name, with the same lines, their message and their contact details. Replying to it answers the shopper directly, and **Open the request** takes you to it in your dashboard. It goes to the same people as your new order emails.

## Answer a request

### Find it in Quotes

Every request is listed in **Quotes**, under **Sell**, newest first: the customer, what they **Asked about**, when it was **Received**, and its **Status**.

- **New**: you have not made a quote from it yet.
- **Quoted**: you made a quote. Its draft order number is beside it.
- **Quote sent**: you sent the quote to the customer to pay. Its draft order number is beside it.
- **Ordered**: the quote became a real order. Its order number is beside it.

![Sell > Quotes listing four requests: one New, one Quoted and one Quote sent with their draft numbers, one Ordered with its order number](https://v3.shoprocket.io/img/help/quotes-and-enquiries/quotes-list.webp)

Click a request to open it. You see each line with the price the shopper saw, their message, their email and phone, when it arrived and the page they sent it from. **Reply by email** starts an email to the shopper in your own email app. To get rid of a request you don't need, such as spam, click the delete button beside **Reply by email** and confirm.

![A quote request open in its drawer: what was asked for, the message, contact details, and Make a quote](https://v3.shoprocket.io/img/help/quotes-and-enquiries/quote-drawer.webp)

### Make a quote

Click **Make a quote**. The request becomes a draft order at today's prices, with the shopper's name and email, and their message as the note from the customer, and the draft opens. A product whose price was hidden goes in at its current price, ready for you to change.

![In Quotes, the seller opens a request, reads it, clicks Make a quote and lands on the new draft order](https://v3.shoprocket.io/img/help/quotes-and-enquiries/make-a-quote-poster.webp) (video: https://v3.shoprocket.io/img/help/quotes-and-enquiries/make-a-quote.mp4)

Open the same request again and the button reads **Open quote** with the draft's number, so one request never makes two drafts. If you delete the draft, the request goes back to New and you can make a quote from it again.

Like any draft, it holds no stock and appears in no reports.

### Set your prices

On the draft, click **Edit**. Change each line's **Price ($)** or **Qty**, add **Shipping ($)** or a **Discount ($)**, and use **Custom line** for anything that is not in your catalog. If you know where it is going, add the customer's address too, so their checkout starts with it filled in. Then click **Save order**.

![Editing the draft made from a request: the item at the seller's price, with shipping and a discount added](https://v3.shoprocket.io/img/help/quotes-and-enquiries/edit-draft.webp)

The customer pays exactly what the draft says: your prices, your shipping and your discount. They give their address at checkout but do not choose a shipping rate or add a discount code.

### Send it to the customer

1. On the draft, click **Send to customer**.
2. Check the **To:** line. If the draft has no email yet, click **Edit** and add one.
3. Add a **Message (optional)**. It appears above the order in the email.
4. Click **Send email**.

![The Send to customer drawer: the customer's email, a message, and the Copy payment link and Send email buttons](https://v3.shoprocket.io/img/help/quotes-and-enquiries/send-to-customer.webp)

To send the link yourself instead, in a chat or a text message, click **Copy payment link**. The link is copied and shown in the drawer.

Once the email has gone, the draft's banner says "Payment link sent to" the customer's email, the date, and until when it works, and the button at the top reads **Resend to customer**. In **Drafts**, the **Payment link** column shows when each draft was sent, or **Not sent**. The request in **Quotes** reads **Quote sent**.

![A draft after sending: Resend to customer at the top, and the banner saying when the payment link was sent and until when it works](https://v3.shoprocket.io/img/help/quotes-and-enquiries/draft-sent.webp)

Send to customer works on any draft order, not only quotes, so you can send a phone or email order you built in **Drafts** the same way.

### What your customer gets

The customer gets an email from your store, with the subject "Your quote #D12 from" your store's name. It has your message, every line at your price, the shipping, the discount, the total and a **Pay now** button. A draft that did not come from a quote request goes out as "Your order #D12 from" your store "is ready to pay" instead.

![The quote email: the seller's message, the items at the quoted prices, shipping, discount and total, and a Pay now button](https://v3.shoprocket.io/img/help/quotes-and-enquiries/quote-email.webp)

**Pay now** opens your shop's normal checkout on the quote. It says "This is order #D12. The store set its items and prices.", the quantities are fixed, and shipping shows as the amount you set. The customer fills in their contact and address details and pays with any of your online payment methods. They cannot change the order: items, quantities, prices, shipping and discount stay exactly as you set them, and there is no discount code box. If they want something different, they ask you and you edit the draft.

If you sell through an embed on your own website, the link opens there: on the page that carries your full store embed, so the customer pays on your site. If your site has no full store embed, it opens on your Shoprocket shop instead.

![The customer's checkout from the link: a note that the store set the items and prices, the seller's lines at the quoted prices, and the store's shipping](https://v3.shoprocket.io/img/help/quotes-and-enquiries/pay-link-checkout.webp)

### When they pay

The draft becomes a real order with the next order number, just like an order placed at checkout: it reserves stock, starts counting in your reports, and the customer gets their order confirmation. The request in **Quotes** reads **Ordered**.

![The customer opens the payment link, checkout opens on the quote, they pay, and the order is confirmed](https://v3.shoprocket.io/img/help/quotes-and-enquiries/pay-link-poster.webp) (video: https://v3.shoprocket.io/img/help/quotes-and-enquiries/pay-link.mp4)

### Take payment yourself

The payment link takes online payments only. If the customer pays you another way, for example by bank transfer or in cash:

1. When they have paid, open the draft and click **Complete order**.
2. Choose **Mark as paid** and click **Complete order**.

![The Complete this draft? dialog with Mark as paid chosen](https://v3.shoprocket.io/img/help/quotes-and-enquiries/complete-draft.webp)

The draft becomes a real order with the next order number, and the request reads **Ordered**. If the customer has agreed but will pay later, choose **Payment due later** instead and record the payment when it arrives.

## Questions

**Does a request hold stock?**
No. A request, and the draft you make from it, hold no stock, even after you send it. Stock is reserved when the draft becomes an order: when the customer pays, or when you complete it. If a product sells out before the customer pays, they cannot pay until it is back in stock or you change the draft.

**Does a request count as a sale?**
No. Requests and drafts stay out of your sales figures and reports until the draft becomes an order.

**What if I edit the draft after sending it?**
The link always charges the draft as it is now, so the customer pays your new total. You do not need to send it again, though you can. A customer who already had checkout open on the old total is told the order changed and shown the new one before they can pay.

**How long does the payment link work?**
30 days from the last time you sent or copied it. **Resend to customer** or **Copy payment link** starts the 30 days again, and the link itself never changes, so an older email still works.

**Can the customer pay twice?**
No. A link pays its draft once. Opening it again after paying says "This has been paid. Thank you!" with the order number.

**What does the customer see on a link that no longer works?**
If it has run out: "This payment link has expired. Contact the store and they can send it again." If you deleted the draft, or completed it without marking it paid: "This payment link is no longer available. Contact the store if you still want to order." If you completed it with **Mark as paid**, the link says it has been paid.

**Can shoppers buy some products and enquire about others?**
Yes, as long as quote mode is off. Set the products you price by hand to Enquire, and everything else keeps its Add to cart button and normal checkout. An Enquire product cannot go in the cart, so the shopper sends its enquiry separately. In quote mode the whole cart becomes a request, so nothing is bought straight away.

**What happens to Google Shopping?**
Enquire products are left out of your Google, Meta and ChatGPT product feeds, whether their price is hidden or not, because those listings promise a price the shopper can buy at today. In quote mode, nothing in your shop is in the feeds. Your other products stay listed as normal.

**Can I change the words on the Enquire button or in the emails?**
Not yet: shoppers see our wording, in their language. The one exception is a **Buy button** embed: if you give its button your own **Words**, its Enquire button shows them.

**Can I take enquiries for a gift card?**
No. Gift cards always sell normally, so Enquiry & price on request is not offered on them.
